Anyone who spends the summer in Vienna has the opportunity to cool off in the numerous outdoor pools. I have selected the most beautiful swimming pools in town for you – this is where you get that real holiday feeling!
With these hot temperatures, only one thing helps: cool down! Fortunately, there are numerous outdoor pools in Vienna that invite you to linger in the summer. Regardless of whether you want to relax on the quiet natural beach or let off steam in the action-packed adventure pool – our capital has something for every taste. In this article I will introduce you to my five personal favorite pools in Vienna!
Krapfenwaldbad
According to cellphoneexplorer, the Krapfenwaldbad in the 19th district is undoubtedly one of the most popular bathing places in Vienna and attracts numerous visitors every summer. They especially appreciate the breathtaking view – here you have all of Vienna under your feet! The great view is not the only plus point – the pool can be reached quickly and easily by public transport. The 38A bus runs almost to the entrance – but you should go there very early if you want to avoid long waiting times.
bathing ship
The Badeschiff scores not only with its urban atmosphere, but also with its central location. It is located not far from Schwedenplatz directly on the Danube Canal and is ideal for everyone who wants to cool off quickly without having to take long journeys. In addition to the 27-meter-long pool, there is also a bar on the sundeck, which tempts you with refreshing summer drinks and delicious ice cream. Here you can enjoy a real holiday feeling in the middle of the city and just switch off!
Alte Donau lido
The Alte Donau lido in the 22nd district offers a lot of variety and is particularly suitable for families. There are not only three swimming pools here, but also its own pebble beach. The pool also offers numerous sports facilities. Whether badminton, soccer or beach volleyball – sports lovers get their money’s worth here. The pool is only a few minutes’ walk from the Alte Donau underground station, and there are several hundred parking spaces right in front of the entrance.
Schafbergbad
The Schafbergbad is one of the largest baths in Vienna and offers a great panoramic view of the city. In addition to the great view, a total of four swimming pools await visitors, which are set up on different terrace levels. The pool also offers a wide range of leisure activities: there is a beach volleyball and mini golf course available to guests. The best way to get to the Schafbergbad is with the 42A bus.
Congress bath
With various action-packed attractions, the Kongressbad in the 16th district is a real Eldorado for adrenaline junkies. In the adventure pool, for example, there is a 64-meter-long water slide, which is especially popular with the little guests. But also the flow channel and the whirl loungers guarantee wet and happy fun. Those who prefer to let off steam in the dry can work out in the fitness course – it is guaranteed not to be boring in the congress pool. The Kongressbad can be reached publicly with the S45 rapid train line – but you still have to walk about 7 minutes from the Hernals station.
If you spend the summer in Vienna, you don’t have to be sad, because here you can also enjoy a real holiday feeling. You still have the opportunity to visit the outdoor pools until the end of September. By the way, you will find many more Vienna tips in my travel magazine!
