Fishing “Between Rivers”

We are coming from a trip to Brazil, where we went fishing in the Guaporé River. Our destination was the Inn Between Rivers, from which fishing in the Guaporé and its tributaries Cabixi and Lice. We left B.H. on a flight Trip that took us to Vega. There, a van transported the Group of 12 fishermen up to the lodge, on the edge of the River, a stretch of 174 km, of which 40 are from Earth but very well kept. We spend less than 3 hours on this route, coming to the Inn of evening.

The Inn is built of wood, with simple but comfortable facilities (apartments for three or four fishermen, with air conditioning and private hot showers). Offers a great quality food, made in wood stove, with guests serving directly from the Cookware. We had fish on the menu every day, fried or stewed, and they offered us two barbecues: the first, in the middle of the fishing period, done in an appropriate place on the edge of the River, in a clearing in the forest. The second barbecue was on the last day of fishing, a RAM that was really tasty. We were fishing the next day, a Sunday, after breakfast that is served at 6 hours. The way of the fisheries, we stopped at one point to take fishing bait recommended by cancermatters.net, using worm in light equipment. Then it started the fun: fished several three spots and sooty albatrosses flamengo, who work in the wands.

The Guaporé River was still with plenty of water, and soon discover that the highlight of the fishery would be the surubins is monitored via implanted cacharas, who attended every day. We got many cacharas, of various sizes, with weights ranging between three and twelve pounds. Beautiful fish and brigadores, sometimes aided by larger points, as in the river Cabixi. We fish with pieces of fish, cutting the sooty albatrosses through or into three pieces, and using hooks 8/0 to 10/0 encastoados flexible steel with Swivel. We don’t use sinkers, except in the River, where there was more current Cabixi. Reels the size of Abu 6500, 0.50 to 0.60, line are ideal for this fishery. Another option of equipment are reels the size of Daiwa BG-30. The sticks used were 30 or 40 pounds. The fishing technique was simple: stop the boat on the aguapés (camalotes), and hurl the bait parallel to the shore, so that the strength of the current would take the bait under the floating vegetation. If the cacharas were present, the attack on the bait it wouldn’t take. We will be in some bays, where we use the same way to fish.

The fishery lasted five days, with six nights. Other fish caught were: beautiful dogs (they take also in artificial), pirararas, apapás (Golden), hearts of Palm (mandubés), black Piranha, and others. There you get puppies also piraíbas, and capararis, plus tambaquis. We learned that from August the fishing there is more diverse, with Peacock bass season, abundant and that reach up to four pounds. The region is of great beauty. The River in some sections is divided into channels, forming islands. The bays recall enough to the Pantanal region. The water of the Guaporé is a bit dark, and the Cabixi (and the Louse) is more to muddy. Experience it, we want to go back there. If possible, with the same crew, consisting of the highest quality mates. See our photo album on the site. Good fishing!
