A trip to South Africa is just as unbeatably beautiful as you would expect. The country offers an overwhelming diversity of animals and nature and contains most of the history and culture. You get to experience fertile vineyards, long coastlines and a modern city. After a visit to the fantastic Cape Town with Taffelberget and Godahoppsudden, we explore the famous and beautiful wine district east of Cape Town and enjoy South Africa’s best wines. The journey ends with a couple of memorable days among Africa’s wildlife.
Day 1: Departure to South Africa
Flight to Cape Town. Meals are included on board the flight.
Day 2: Arrival in Cape
Town Cape Town, or “Mother City”, is the legislative capital, ie the city where Parliament is located, in South Africa and the largest city in the Western Cape. We land in Cape Town in the afternoon local time. After a refresh, we do a city tour with, among other things, the Fortress of Good Hope, Green Market and Company’s garden. In the evening there will be a welcome dinner at the Waterfront. Overnight in Cape Town. (Dinner)
Day 3: Robben Island, Kirstenbosch and Taffelberget
In the morning we go out by boat on an educational trip to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned most of his time in captivity. We then visit Kirstenbosch, one of the world’s most beautiful botanical gardens, which spreads along the slope of Table Mountain. Weather permitting, we take a cable car ride up Taffelberget. From here the view is magnificent. Overnight in Cape Town. (Breakfast and lunch)
Day 4: The Cape of Good Hope
Today, a full-day trip to the Cape of Good Hope awaits us, including Chapman“s peak drive, a panoramic tour that winds its way along the Atlantic coast at the southern tip of South Africa from Noordhoek to Hout Bay. We reach the famous cape, which lies as far southwest as possible on the African continent, and this is where the two oceans meet. The outer part of the cape is now a nature reserve. After lunch we walk through the colorful and lively Bo Kaap, located on the slopes of Signal Hill. We also have the opportunity to visit the District 6 Museum. This museum provides insight into the policy of forced relocation of blacks and coloreds by the apartheid regime. Overnight in Cape Town. (Breakfast and lunch)
Day 5: Cape Town – Free day
The whole day is free for your own walks. Feel free to ask the guide about additional sights or activities. Overnight in Cape Town. (Breakfast)
Day 6: Cape Town – Wine District
In the morning we pay a visit to one of the city’s shantytowns where we get a guided tour. We continue on to the famous wine districts around Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. The area is famous for being the country’s food and wine center. Here we visit Vineyard Anura for tasting and to eat our lunch. Then we get an exciting tour of the wine cellar to learn more about wine production. Overnight in Stellenbosch. (Breakfast and lunch)
Day 7: Stellenbosch – Hermanus
We leave Stellenbosch to go to Hermanus. We follow Clarence Drive over a mountain pass, and get a panoramic view of False Bay, the coast, Table Mountain and large parts of the Cape Peninsula. We stop at Betty’s Bay for a visit to a penguin colony. We then continue to Hermanus. After lunch we do a whale watching trip by boat. Overnight in Hermanus. (Breakfast)
Day 8: Cape Agulhas
In the morning we visit Panthera Africa, a sanctuary for big cats and an educational platform for various species. The next stop will be at Elim, a village, with white thatched cottages, built in 1824 by members of the Moravian Brethren Church. We continue our journey to Cape Agulhas, the southern tip of Africa where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. Overnight in Arniston (B)
Day 9: Garden Route Game Lodge
After breakfast we head to Garden Game Lodge, and in the afternoon there will be an exciting jeep safari. We go in open cars with a so-called ranger, a park ranger, who is an expert on the area’s flora and fauna, out at dusk to see some of the wild animals. With a little luck, we can see “The Big Five”, a collective name that refers to the five animal species elephant, rhino, African buffalo, lion and leopard. Dinner and overnight at the lodge. Day 10: Garden Route Game Lodge – Return
We return to Cape Town for a return trip to Sweden. Meals are included on board the flight. (Breakfast and lunch)
Day 11: Homecoming
Homecoming to the place of boarding.
