Choosing a Location for Camping

* Many national parks already have certain places to camp, even those said (that have no structure as a toilet and running water). If you tell where they are located and respect them.

* When there is no previously determined location, look for one that is relatively flat, not as exposed to winds, lightning etc, as the edges and ridges, and with ground that allows the use of specks (ground of rocks are the worst, but can be used if you, instead of specks, using stones tied behind sway tapes). For those who don’t know, specks are those dead used to secure the tent to the ground.

* Is relatively close to a watercourse, to be able to cook in the evening and in the morning. If this is not possible, make sure you have enough water in your bag.For that, a good planning is essential, taking into backpacking water collector containers like empty bottles and canteens. Useless a last minute decision, when you cannot store all the water necessary for your survival. Remember: the seat is much more serious than hunger.

* To define a place to camp, keep in mind some basics of minimal impact: “don’t let tracks” try not to leave evidence of your passage through the mountains and, if possible, take it to the last consequences. So, all that you got, bring it back! Be sure to bring even the peels of fruits and toilet paper used because they also pollute, including visually even being biodegradable. Besides, in the case of fruit, you may be introducing species that do not belong to the ecosystem for where you’re going through. Treat the water for drinking. Bury feces at least 15 cm from the ground and more than 40 metres of a watercourse. Don’t make too much noise and respect the law of silence in the camps. If someone has no experience in the group, is also responsible for the formation of this person, teaching the rulesof ethics and good conduct in the Bush.

* Does the terrain and climatic conditions that are, to assemble the tent do as if it were live in it for a month, even if it is for only one night. Winds and storms arrive by surprise and best surprise them with a well armed, to be surprised by them, seeing the House fly and/or tear in the blink of an eye.

* On ice and snow, the course doesn’t exist. Choose a location relatively protected, if possible, and away from cracks, to not have the danger of dropping them on a night out to go to the bathroom, for example. If the site is not protected, get ready to build a wall around the tent (a shovel is critical in these cases).

* Mount the tent with the door facing away from the prevailing wind. Generally speaking, in Patagonia, for example, he comes from the South, very strong, bringing the bad weather. In Alaska, he tends to come from the North, also strong andbringing bad weather. Is facing away from him. In Brazil, most of the time, he also comes from the South or Southwest, when the cold front with him. East windstend to be harbinger of summer rains in southeastern Brazil and can also get strong. This item is essential in extreme cases, i.e. when camping in places very exposed, as ridges and edges, with a lot of wind and altitude.

* Study the region will mount it before locking her down. How inclined is the night? Is there a stick or stone in the middle of the floor of the tent and that has not yet been taken. If it rains, be protected from water that will flow through the floor? I’m in a place where it can drain easily? Some soils can soak over night be sure to not be riding to your House on a lake. Good trails and good night outdoors. Text: Helen Artmann
