First of all, change your concepts and break paradigms to live new choices without fear.Dangerous? Certainly everything has risks in this life. If you think like that, you will not leave the car, motorcycle, or walk. But, the good news is that everything also has prevention! If you take the right actions and follow some basic precautions, riding in the city will certainly be as safe as other means of transportation.
The bicycle is democratic. Almost everyone can pedal, without restrictions of age and physical type, much less social class, as it is an affordable vehicle of various price ranges.
In relation to the routes, not all can be done by bicycle. If you do not have physical training and want to go 20km to go and 20km to get back from work, you will certainly have difficulties.
Ideally, for those who are starting out, it is opportune to use the bicycle in locomotions up to 10km away. Over time, it increases, until the car is completely replaced.
The bike gives you the advantage of being able to organize your day, without delays and unforeseen events. The time of the course is always the same, varying minutes … So, you live in less haste, with no time pressure, and enjoy your days better.
It is important to choose the ideal bike for the physical type and profile of the routes, such as: urban, speed, mountain bike, hybrid, folding, electric. There are several choices of brands and price ranges in the market. It all depends on how much you can invest. But, remember: spare no effort on quality. It will make all the difference in your day to day life and in your safety. You can also search for pedal supplies for more safe equipments.
Acquire all safety equipment, necessary to stay visible in traffic and protected: helmet, front and rear light, left rear view mirror, gloves, raincoat and whatever you feel most need.
To act in traffic, always use signs with your arms to indicate your movement to drivers, avoiding surprises. Ask for passage, give way, and advise when you need to get in front of the vehicles. If you need to, yell! Remember to always walk on the right lane. Never walk on bus lanes, curbstones and sidewalks. Never ever!
Plan your routes, avoiding high flow avenues. If possible, include cycle paths on the course.
