Menstrual Disturbances Will Help The Athletes?

Is often the presence of alterations in the menstrual cycle between the sportswomen. This has always been linked to the excessive training together with a low calorie consumption that, sometimes, a low density bone u osteopenia among the athletes.

However, a recent study assessed at 90 athletes that they were training for the 2008 Olympic Games and none of them, despite having menstrual disorders, It had weak bones, but on the contrary.

Among the athletes was observed a high frequency of a bad ovarian called Polycystic Ovary. This syndrome is a hormonal disorder that is associated with an excessive production of androgens or male sex hormones.

The highest concentration of androgens determines the lack of menstruation or alterations in the cycle, increase in villus in the female body and acne.

Until now always thought that rigorous physical training was the cause of menstrual difficulties, but now the investigation reverses the Association and believed that polycystic ovary syndrome allows athletes to have a greater performance, facilitates the formation of muscle mass and the absorption of oxygen due to the increase in the levels of testosterone originating said bad ovarian.

Then, the menstrual disorders facing the athletes could be caused by polycystic ovary which tends to be more that common among the elite Olympic athletes on average women.

The ovarian condition is also more common in sports of high impact as the fight than in other more technical sports and ice hockey and less physical impact as archery.

Beyond that the research generated views about the found relationship, the result seems interesting and nothing crazy.

However, I believe that not is should ignore the presence of a syndrome or ovarian condition, since although not confirmed evil consequences, polycystic ovary could harm women who possess it.

It is important to remember that in the female body, “normal” is having a regular menstrual cycle, therefore, a case of irregularities or amenorrhea, You should always consult a health professional and not downplay to this “abnormal” disorder in women.
